On April 4, 2024, NATO celebrated its 75th anniversary since the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty, the alliance's founding document.

Since 1949, the alliance has ensured peace, democracy and prosperity for its members and today counts 32 allies and a billion people on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 1949, the NATO was founded by twelve states. Initially, their task was to deter the enemy in the East-West conflict as a counterweight to the Warsaw Pact. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, other states followed. The area of operation now extends far beyond the territory of the member states and is changing the task from a defense alliance to a global security alliance.
