The Canadian-German artist Rafael Schoelermann was born in Canada, raised in Vancouver and attained a degree in Music from UBC. After developing his interest in photography he has had several shows in Munich and is now presenting his “Waterworks” series of selected photographic works at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery from May 9th thru June 2nd 2019.

With “Waterworks”, water acts as a canvas upon which the elements of light, wind, clouds in the sky all come together to create exciting images. Experimenting with different times of day, weather conditions and even occasionally from the same vantage point, a never ending wealth of color and composition is at the artist’s disposal. Nature can truly produce the best picture and photography provides the challenge of having to develop a quick artistic eye to capture the special moment. Using a variety of materials on which to reproduce these works has enhanced the subtleties of texture and refinement to these photographs. Nature produced them but “Waterworks” is Rafael’s vision he is sharing with you.
