The American Friend is a moody thriller by Wim Wenders, adapted from the novel Ripley's Game by Patricia Highsmith. Tom Ripley, an expat American and shady art dealer living in Germany, is asked by a friend to help him fighting a gang of criminals. When searching for a contract killer who should be as unknown as possible in the criminal milieu, Ripley's choice falls on Jonathan Zimmerman, a Hamburg picture framer and family man with an incurable blood disorder.
