In cooperation with the University of Victoria, the Consulate General of Germany organizes a series of commemorative Mauerfall events taking place on the campus of the University of Victoria. The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies is very excited to welcome guests from Germany, UVic students, members of the university and local community. All guests are welcome to stay for the whole program or just come to the events that are of most interest.
Time schedule of the Mauerfall events:
Artist talk on Political Art
Classroom visit of Dr. Ulrich Reimkasten, an artist and professor whose career spanned both the former GDR and the post-Wende period. The talk will be in German with the students in Germanic Studies 401 (Popular German Culture). Limited seats are available, please email Dr. Matthew Pollard (matthewp@uvic.ca) if you are interested in attending.

Movie Screening: Gundermann
Free public film screening of Andreas Dresen’s Gundermann (2018), generously supported by the German Consulate General and the Goethe-Institut at UVic’s Cinecenta. The movie will be introduced by Dr. Peter Gölz, expert on German film at the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies.

Panel discussion with eyewitnesses
Panel discussion with eyewitnesses from each side of the wall, who will share their thoughts and insights about this momentous event.
