Beethoven’s Eroica - Classical Traditions at the Chan Centre

Beethoven, © 2020 Vancouver Symphony Society
In 1802 Beethoven was overcome with depression as the irreversible nature of his deafness became undeniable. He wrote a “testament” to this fact, ending it with the insinuation he would end his life. Myth has it he then arose from his desk and launched into creating the passion and triumph of the Eroica Symphony. Brett Dean, conductor and violist, leads from the music stand both his own work, inspired by Beethoven’s testament, and the great 3rd Symphony.
