Bread: An Everyday Miracle

Many of us have been cultivating a closer relationship with bread over the past few months, there has been explosion in home baking. This recent German-made documentary (in German, English, French, Spanish and other languages) is a paean to a staple food of uncommon diversity and appeal.

The Tobacconist

Seventeen-year-old Franz (Simon Morze) journeys to Vienna to apprentice at a tobacco shop. There, he befriends a regular customer, Sigmund Freud (Bruno Ganz). When Franz falls desperately in love with the music-hall dancer Anezka (Emma Drogunova), he seeks advice from the renowned psychoanalyst. As political and social conditions in Austria dramatically worsen with the Nazis' arrival in Vienna, Franz, Freud, and Anezka are swept into the maelstrom of events.
