United Voices Choir, supported by professional orchestra and soloists, will be performing Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore (K339), and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria on Saturday May 14, 2 p.m. at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, 2733 West 41st Ave. and on Sunday May 15, 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1130 Jervis St.

The six-movement, joyous and positive Mozart work, which includes his famous Laudate Dominum, is undeservedly underperformed. Puccini's Messa di Gloria is his largest non-operatic work, which he wrote at 20 years of age, considerably before he began writing operas. The warmth of the Kyrie, the exuberance of the Gloria, the prominence of the soloists, and the lush Puccini melodies throughout create a wonderful blend of the sacred and the operatic. These two pieces, although very different, are both packed with glorious, uplifting music - upbeat and tuneful. Perfect for a spring afternoon!

Tickets can be purchased only through Eventbrite.
