On his inaugural visit to Yellowknife, Consul General Eichhorn had the great pleasure of meeting with the Honourable Caroline Cochrane, MLA for Range Lake, Premier of the Northwest Territories, with Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty of the Tlicho Government as well as representatives from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as well as the Department of Indigenous and Intergovernmental Affairs of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Furthermore, he met with the Mayor of the City of Yellowknife, Rebecca Alty, and enjoyed guided tours of the Legislative Assembly and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Major topics of discussion at the meetings included climate and environmental research in the Northwest Territories, in particular the CoMet 2.0 Arctic project, economic affairs, especially tourism opportunities, and indigenous affairs.

In Kitimat, Consul General Eichhorn visited the new LNG plant under construction, which is scheduled to officially open in 2025 and reach its full production capacity of 28 million tons of LNG per year by the end of 2027. The so-called “heart” of the LNG plant was built in Germany: The German-American chemical company LINDE plc, world market leader for industrial gases, supplied the heat exchanger and precoolers in which the gas will be liquefied.
