The Charlemagne Prize, one of the most esteemed awards in Europe, has been awarded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people for their contributions to Europe. This award is a recognition of Ukraine's struggle to defend not only its own sovereignty and the lives of its citizens, but also European values.

The Charlemagne Prize Trustees and the City of Aachen present this award as a symbol of solidarity with Ukraine and believe that Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people should be encouraged to begin accession negotiations with the European Union.

The international Charlemagne Prize, which is given for work towards the unification of Europe, is named after Charlemagne, the Frankish king known as the “Father of Europe.” It is the oldest and most well-known prize of its kind.
