Welcome to the German Consulate General in Montreal!  We are glad that you are browsing our website.

The German Consulate General in Montreal—with its administrative district of Quebec (except for Gatineau)—is part of the Team Canada. Together with our colleagues at the German Embassy in Ottawa and at the Consulates General in Vancouver and Toronto, we strive to deepen the already close and cordial relations between Germany and Canada.

The Consulate General in Montreal is keen on fostering economic and commercial relations between Quebec and Germany, especially in innovation, mobility, transport and infrastructure. We work closely together with the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Montreal International and other Canadian and German partners. Since 2018, we have established a platform for dialogue on smart and responsive innovation. Our workshops for German and Canadian companies on “Smart Ports”, “Smart Mobility” and “Smart Energy” were met with great interest. In October 2020, our latest workshop on “Smart Buildings and Communities” took place virtually as part of MTL Connect: Montreal Digital Week in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, “Quartier de l’innovation” and Concordia University. Follow us on Twitter for the latest updates @AllemagneMTL.

The Consulate General is in charge of numerous delegations, who visit Montreal to attend trade fairs, conferences or seminars. Artificial intelligence, energy, mobility and aerospace are fields of particular interest. We are very glad that Montreal and Quebec are becoming ever more attractive for Germans, be it as a conference location or business partner, a cultural hub or a city of universities. The Goethe-Institut, situated in the “Quartier des Spectacles”, is part of this dynamic atmosphere. It is being financed by the German Federal Foreign Service, and organizes numerous film evenings and cultural events, where German and Canadian artists, musicians and other cultural actors work together. Look for events at Goethe-Institut as well as at So German.

Many German scientists who teach or do research here contribute to the very good reputation of Montreal’s universities. The German Academic Exchange Service has a lot to offer to Canadian students and professors wishing to study and do research in Germany. Find out more at DAAD.

At the Alexander von Humboldt School in Baie-d’Urfé, not only children from Germany and Canada study together, but also young people from Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. The new immersion program helps students who are not yet familiar with the German language to find their place at this international school. Learn more about this amazing place at AvH.

The German Consulate General looks back on a long tradition. In 2018 we celebrated 125 years of German career consuls being posted to Montreal. Time for something new! Since the end of July 2017 the German Consulate General is the first German mission worldwide that is headed by way of job sharing. We are alternating every six months. From August 1 to January 31 of each year, Markus Lang is the Consul General; from February 1 to July 31 Kathrin Misera-Lang holds this function. Does it work? Come and see us to find out!

Best regards,

Markus Lang and Kathrin Misera-Lang
