On the occasion of the 75^th anniversary, we are honoured to participate in many events around the city; some of them are open to the public: The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) organizes a webstream and talk based on award-winning book “Hana's Suitcase”, which has been distributed to nearly 18,000 students in the GTA. The Goethe-Institut Toronto will show the film “Shoah”, a 10 hours and 13 minute long documentary by French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann.

Numerous events are also taking place in Germany to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and the tyranny of National Socialism. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who will also speak at the World Holocaust Forum in Yad Vashem (Jerusalem), will visit the Auschwitz concentration camp together with Israel's President Reuven Rivlin on January 27, before both will speak at the central memorial service in the German Bundestag on January 29.

In Berlin, commemorative events will take place at numerous memorial sites, including the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Memorial and Information Centre for the Victims of the Euthanasia Murders, the Memorial to Persecuted Homosexuals and the Memorial to the Murdered Sinti and Roma of Europe. In addition, a nationwide call for illumination was issued: All German memorials are to be illuminated by candlelight.

The Jewish Community Berlin will host a lecture and concert in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute and will also celebrate the 20th “German Jewish History Award”, which is given to People, who contributed greatly to the preservation of Jewish history in Germany and to the German-Jewish dialogue.
