On Franco-German Day, we commemorate the Elysée Treaty of January 22nd, 1963, with which President Charles De Gaulle and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer established the close friendship between our two nations.
The Treaty of Aachen of 2019 then later placed these relations on a broad foundation and geared the bilateral relationship for the future within the framework of the EU. With this treaty Germany and France agreed on a joint programme of enhanced cooperation in the face of a multilateral order that is coming under pressure as only together we can move Forward.
