The 49th Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15, 2024.

Two years ago, Edward Berger won four Oscars after his TIFF world premiere with All Quiet on the Western Front. He returns to TIFF 2024 with his latest, the papal drama “Conclave,” starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci.

TIFF programmers this year are also taking an exciting look at sophomore films of younger German filmmakers. Actor-director Fabian Stumm‘s comedy drama “Sad Jokes” was just celebrated at the Munich Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Award and the New German Cinema Award for best director. The plot: Joseph and Sonya share an intimate friendship and their young son, whom they're raising together. When Sonya is hospitalized, Joseph must juggle both his everyday commitments and his artistic ambitions. “Sad Jokes” will screen in TIFF‘s coveted Discovery section.

Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti’s “Happy Holidays,” a Palestine-Germany-France-Qatar-Italy co-production set in Israel. It follows a student whose double life is exposed when she gets involved in a minor accident. Copti’s 2009 film “Ajami”, an Israel-Germany-UK co-production), was Israel’s nomination for a Best International Film Oscar.

See you in the cinema!
