Walk through German Heritage sites in downtown Toronto & short film screening at Goethe-Institute Toronto!
This event is organized by the Consulate General of Germany in Toronto in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Toronto.
Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods, and many of them have a deep and layered ethnic history. Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Italy or Little India are just some examples of the diversity of Canada's largest city.
While Germans in Toronto don’t have one particular neighbourhood to call their own, German influence can be found throughout the city – hidden and not always obvious.
Explore Toronto's hidden German heritage on our guided walk through downtown! Discover the city’s rich and diverse ethnic tapestry while uncovering German influences scattered across various neighbourhoods. From historic landmarks to lesser-known sites, this tour reveals the subtle yet significant impact of the German community in Toronto.
The tour will culminate with a compelling short film screening at the Goethe-Institut Toronto. We will present “Biotop” (German with English subtitles), a short film that explores migration themes through the lens of a suburb constructing a noise wall to block incoming refugees, revealing deeper fears and tensions.
Our walk will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 12 at Berczy Park and conclude around 12:30 pm after the film screening at the Goethe-Institute.
Free registration with limited space available. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your order so a spot can be made available for another attendee.
Please note this event will be photographed and video-recorded. Photos and videos may be used for social media posts.
