What does it mean to belong? With warmth, humor, and a touch of nostalgia, “Almanya: Welcome to Germany” tells the story of three generations of a Turkish-German family, navigating questions of identity, migration, and home.
Six-year-old Cenk doesn’t understand why he wasn’t picked for either the German or Turkish soccer team at school. His cousin Canan begins to tell him the family’s story—from their grandfather Hüseyin’s arrival in Germany as a Gastarbeiter in the 1960s to the complex cultural dynamics that still shape their lives today.
When Hüseyin surprises the family with a newly purchased house in his Turkish hometown, the entire family embarks on a journey back to their ancestral roots—for the very first time. But what begins as a road trip soon takes an unexpected turn…
Almanya blends comedy and emotion to explore what it means to live between two worlds. A warm-hearted, thought-provoking film about heritage, identity, and the idea of home.
