Annemarie Heinze, president of the Canadian Association of German Schools (KVDS) from 1992 to 2007, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 99, surrounded by her family in Peterborough. After studying education in Germany, she moved to Canada in 1952 with her husband, Kurt, and became a teacher. She worked at the Toronto Board of Education and taught German at the Scarborough German School, eventually becoming its principal from 1968 to 2007. Annemarie was deeply involved in the KVDS, where she advocated for a unified Canadian curriculum for German schools and played a key role in developing standardized German exams and organizing professional development events. For her dedication to preserving the German language and culture, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by the German government. In addition to her teaching career, she was an accomplished gymnast and founded a gymnastics club for young athletes in Toronto.
