German-Canadian Transatlantic Relations: Science, Security, and Higher Education
Ger-Can © MunkSchool
Canada and Germany share a strong commitment to multilateral cooperation, trust, and innovation. As countries often described as middle powers, both rely on knowledge, research, and international collaboration to address global challenges. Universities and organizations such as the Canadian and German U15 and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) play an important role in strengthening these ties by supporting talent, research, and exchange.
In light of current global developments- including geopolitical tensions, climate change, technological security, and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence-science diplomacy is becoming increasingly important. It helps build trust, supports international cooperation, and connects research with policy and society.
This panel discussion will look at opportunities and challenges for German-Canadian academic cooperation, including research security, talent mobility, and the role of universities in international dialogue. Speakers from academia and policy will discuss how cooperation can be strengthened while navigating changing political and security frameworks.
