This summer, the German - Canadian Congress is proud to share classic German brothers Grimm fairy tales at the Witch’s Hut in Kildonan park.

The Witch’s Hut in Kildonan Park was a Centennial Project of the German Community of Manitoba, and a gift to the children of the Province. It is now one of the major cultural attractions in the city. Its dedication ceremony and official opening was in October 1970. The Hut, designed by the well- known Manitoba architect Hans Peter Langes, is a non-traditional round shape, adding to its uniqueness and making it stand out as a memorable site to visit.

The Witch’s Hut depicts the evil witches gingerbread house of the German folktale Hansel and Gretel. The Witch keeps Hansel locked up inside and poor Gretel is put to work. Visitors are welcome to explore inside the hut and witness the terrifying Witch inside firsthand as the story is brought to life.

This summer, the German-Canadian Congress will be presenting storytelling sessions at the Witch’s Hut. Come listen as the traditional folktales of the brothers Grimm are recounted for little ones. Anyone interested is welcome to join and listen as the fairy tales are presented anew. More interesting information about German fairy tales will also be posted around the Witch’s hut to read and learn more.

July 2 – 2:00–4:00 p.m.
July 16 – 2:00–4:00 p.m.
July 29 – 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
August 12 – 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
August 26 – 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
