The German Consulate General in Toronto is proud to support the workshop presentation of Heritage Building in Prime Location, an innovative new adaptation presented by storm&stress and 1s1 Theatre at Theatre Passe Muraille.

Originally developed from a German play, this production marks a significant milestone as the first-ever American Sign Language (ASL)–English translation of a German theatrical work. Combining ASL, spoken English, and physical storytelling, the performance reimagines the original text through an accessible and immersive theatrical experience.

Set in a historic building threatened by luxury redevelopment, Heritage Building in Prime Location follows the final tenants as they resist displacement by a profit-driven landlord. Blending housing-market drama with ghost story, the work explores themes of gentrification, communication, language, power, and belonging. As the boundaries between the living and the dead begin to blur, audiences are invited to experience a performance that is as much felt as it is seen.

Following each 45-minute workshop presentation, audiences are invited to stay for a post-show Q&A with the artists.
