The Deutsche Sprachschulen (Metro Toronto) Inc. (“DSS”) is a not-for-profit organisation that has been operating German Saturday schools (KG to Grade 12) since 1956.

Our new school year is starting in Mid-September at all three locations (DSS Scarborough, DSS Richmond Hill and DSS Toronto Central West), and there is still time to register. On 30 Saturday mornings (excluding long weekends and holidays), our students will learn the German language and culture according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). We welcome German enthusiasts of all levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12. We also offer adult classes at our Scarborough and Toronto Central West (Etobicoke) locations starting in September 2026, and at our Richmond Hill location beginning in January 2027.

At this time seventy years ago, Toronto’s German community was preparing to launch the inaugural Saturday classes of the Deutsche Sprachschulen. Pioneered by German-speaking immigrants to Canada who were passionate about passing on language and culture to the younger generations, our schools today are the legacy of their efforts and dedication.

Before the summer, we celebrated our educators at the German Consulate General and our students, families and alumni at a tri-school picnic and soccer tournament. We also published a 70th anniversary yearbook. This fall, we will document more of this and our history on our website, so please check dssgta.org regularly or contact us at alumni@dssgta.org if you have more stories to share about your time at DSS!

We are seeking enthusiastic and creative German teachers and classroom assistants to join our dedicated teams of educators. The ideal candidates are passionate about teaching the German language and culture, enjoy working with children and teens, and value collaboration with colleagues and families. Classes are Saturday mornings for three hours throughout the academic year. If you are interested, please contact the relevant school management.
