The Deutsche Sprachschulen (Metro Toronto) Inc. (DSS) is a not-for-profit organization that has been offering German Saturday school programs for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 since 1956 – this year we also offer adult classes!

We had a fantastic start to the new school year at all three of our locations: Richmond Hill, Toronto Central West (Etobicoke), and Scarborough. A warm welcome back to all returning families, and a special welcome to our new students, teachers and parents joining us this year!

We’re happy to report that our student enrollment has grown overall. There are still spots available at all our locations, so please help spread the word and send the registration link to anyone who may be interested in learning German.

One of our October highlights will be the North America Final of Jugend Debattiert - the official German debating youth competition - in Toronto on Saturday, October 24th. Five of our DSS students qualified - we wish them best of luck and will use this unique opportunity to cheer them on in person, with the final coming to Toronto.

DSS Scarborough kicked off the new school year with a warm teacher social - a chance to reconnect and welcome our newest team members. The first day was a whirlwind of excitement, with around 100 students attending classes from Kindergarten through to adult classes. Highlights included crafting traditional Schultüten, opening letters from our German pen-pals and discovering new books in our improved library! Our first monthly Parent Social then took place on September 26th - a wonderful opportunity to connect and build community. See photos on our instagram!

DSS Richmond Hill teachers, students, and parents were thrilled to reconnect with friends and share stories from their summer holidays. The school was buzzing with energy as familiar faces returned and new ones joined our community. Registration is still open, and we look forward to welcoming even more families to be part of our vibrant school community.

DSS Toronto Central West (Etobicoke) started the new school year with outdoor fun, traditional Schultüten for our grade one students, and of course, pretzels for everyone. The teachers had their annual meeting and shared all they had learned from the recent national conference of the KVDS (Kanadischer Verband Deutscher Sprachschulen). Our community is looking forward to learning German together through games, crafts, and our library. Meanwhile, we wish our more advanced students all the best as they dive into preparation for the DSD exams.
