☀️🌴 A few of the places, we would like to visit in the summer are - of course - in Germany! Hidden in the mountains are breathtaking gorges that make you feel like a real adventurer when conquering them. At least that's how we felt when we hiked through some of them!
Let us take you on a journey to some of the most amazing places in Germany!

This beautiful view of the Bavarian Wetterstein mountains looks very harmless. But the hiking trail leads to the one-kilometre-long Höllental gorge...

The Höllental gorge is definitely a must-see during a vacation in the Zugspitz region. It offers a unique, bizarre landscape and presents a great insight into the forces of nature. Gorges up to 150 meters deep, countless waterfalls, huge chunks of rock and ice as well as winding paths, footbridges, bridges and tunnels invite you to a visual adventure.

The ascent route to the Zugspitze begins at the end of the gorge. At 2962 m above sea level, the Zugspitze is the highest peak in the Wetterstein mountain range and also Germany's highest mountain.

The Wimbach gorge is located in the small village of Ramsau near Berchtesgaden. The hiking trail through the Wimbach gorge is only around 200 meters long. This makes it the shortest gorge in Bavaria.
Along the gorge, the water comes not only from the Wimbach stream, but also from numerous other small streams. They flow spectacularly down the meter-high rock faces.

The Almbach gorge in Berchtesgadener Land
The deep gorge along the Almbach stream was blasted and built into the rock with 29 bridges and footbridges as well as 320 stone steps and a tunnel.
The Almbach gorge is three kilometers long, a wild and romantic gorge at the foot of the mighty and legendary Untersberg.

Starzlach gorge in the Allgäu, Bavaria
This adventurous path leads the hiker past rock overhangs, over numerous bridges and footbridges in the Allgäu Alps and through a narrow crevice.
In the Starzlach gorge, one encounters foaming water whirlpools, huge water mills, the high, wildly romantic side gorges, a tor-like rock roof and a dry gorge. In the gorge, the water plunges down a waterfall more than twelve meters high.

Can you find the hiking trail?!

The hike through the 2 km long Breitach gorge takes about 45 minutes.

The 200-metre-long Dragon gorge is a gorge near Eisenach in the Thuringian Forest in the nature reserve between Wartburg Castle and Hohe Sonne. The narrowest point on the hiking trail in the Dragon gorge is no wider than 70 cm. In the narrow gorge, you walk on footbridges over a rushing stream. Over millions of years, the water of the stream has carved its way almost ten meters deep into the red rocks below Wartburg Castle.

Wartburg Castle towers 411 m above sea level over the Dragon gorge. It was built around 1067 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The name means guard castle. The seat of the landgraves was once regarded as the center of high medieval poetry and minnesong, became the home and place of work of St. Elisabeth, offered exile to the reformer Martin Luther, who was persecuted by the Pope and Emperor, and saw the dawn of a free and democratic nation with the Wartburg Festival of the German fraternities.
It is the first German castle to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 1000 years of German history are impressively reflected here.

One can't show the Wartburg without also showing a picture of the “Luther Room”, where Luther translated the New Testament into German during his proscription in 1521 and 1522. Luther's translation of the Bible was an enormously important basis for the development of a written German language, is still the authoritative Bible text of the Evangelical Lutheran Church today and was an essential pillar of the Reformation as it made the Bible accessible to the common people for the very first time in a powerful, vivid and generally understandable German language.

Just over the German-Czech border lies this beauty in the Bohemian part of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Czech: České Švýcarsko; German: Böhmische Schweiz). Some of the paths created during the development are carved into the rock like galleries, and there are even a few tunnels. The highlight is a dammed reservoir, which can only be crossed by boat.

In the 699 m long Partnach Gorge, the water drips and trickles from the walls even after a long time without rain. 247 meters of the trail lead through tunnels. The highest steep face is 86 m high, the iron bridge crosses the river at a height of 68 m and the height difference within the gorge is an impressive 80 meters! Most of the path runs through tunnels or galleries and is lower than 1.75 m in some places.

But one will be rewarded with this wonderful view! What more could one ask for?
