For many families, these are cherished keepsakes. But they are also something more: important pieces of history.
The German Canadian Studies program at the University of Winnipeg is working to preserve the stories of German immigrants who helped shape Canada. To do so, researchers are seeking private materials such as photographs, letters, diaries, films, and personal documents that capture the experiences of German immigrants and their families.
Perhaps your grandparents crossed the Atlantic in search of a new life. Perhaps your family built a farm, a business, or a community in Canada. Every story matters—and every photograph, letter, or document can help future generations better understand their history.
If your family has German roots in Canada, we encourage you to learn more about this remarkable project and consider contributing to the preservation of German Canadian heritage.
