We are pleased to host this year's German edition of the EU Book Club on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the historic Roedde House Museum in downtown Vancouver.

We will discuss Corpus Delicti by acclaimed German author Juli Zeh, a thought-provoking novel set in a future society where health has become the highest principle and individual freedom increasingly comes into conflict with state control. First published in 2009, the novel challenges readers to consider what happens when the pursuit of a better society begins to redefine the boundaries of freedom, responsibility and personal choice.

The evening begins with doors opening at 5:00 p.m., followed by the book discussion at 5:30 p.m. Guests are invited to enjoy a High Tea featuring a selection of savoury and sweet refreshments throughout the evening.

As in previous years, the discussion will be led by Dr. Florian Gassner from the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies at the University of British Columbia, whose insights always make for an engaging and lively conversation.

Following the discussion, guests are welcome to join an optional guided tour of the Roedde House Museum and learn more about this beautifully preserved heritage home and its history.
