Skilled Trades Without Borders: Alberta ↔ Germany
Work abroad © GK
Could you take your trade to Germany – or bring German craftsmanship to your workplace?
A new Alberta–Germany Skilled Trades Mobility Pilot is creating opportunities for skilled tradespeople aged 18–35 in Alberta to gain international work experience in Germany, while Edmonton businesses can host skilled tradespeople from Germany.
The programme is part of Crafting Futures – Transatlantic Pilot (2026–2029), connecting skilled tradespeople, training institutions and businesses in Alberta and Baden-Württemberg. It is funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
On October 15, the European-Canadian Centre for Innovation & Research will host “Skilled Trades Without Borders: Alberta ↔ Germany” at the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of the Handwerkskammer Region Stuttgart and Alberta partners will introduce the mobility programme and compare the two countries’ apprenticeship and skilled trades systems.
Applications for work placements are open from October 1 to November 15, 2026.
