German wines are made in 13 regions mostly in the south-western part of Germany. Rheinhessen, Pfalz and Baden are the largest of Germany's wine regions but also the small ones like Nahe or Ahr produce world-class wines.
Some of Germany’s oldest vineyards date back to the Roman era and are growing Germany's traditional reds Dornfelder, Portugieser, Trollinger, Lemberger, Frühburgunder ( Pinot Noir Pécose) and Schwarzriesling and of course the famous whitesSilvaner, Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) Kerner and Scheurebe. Germany's most famous grape is certainly the Riesling, with Riesling accounting for 20% of all wines grown in Germany.
