The language advisors of the Central Agency for Schools Abroad – ZfA – in Toronto and Edmonton counsel K-12 schools with German programs in Canada. They give advice to school projects, provide PD to enhance the professional standards of teachers and they support schools in Canada with the development of modern lesson planning.

Schools that are collaborating with the ZfA advisors have access to extensive support in terms of teaching supplies and equipment.

For students, the advisors administer examinations towards the German Language Certificate of the Standing Committee of Ministers of Education of Germany – “Sprachdiplom der KMK” – and other assessment which follows the guidelines of the framework for German as a second or foreign language issued by the ZfA. In particular, the ZfA advisors oversee the procedures leading up to the German Language Certificate DSD II which establishes the linguistic qualification for students to study at German universities.
