On June 26, we had the opportunity to attend a Canadian citizenship ceremony held at the Ontario Legislative building hosted by The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell. A very moving and insightful view into the Canadian civic fabric.

51 new Canadian citizens were sworn in before joyfully singing the Canadian national anthem. As citizenship judge Albert Wong noted, June is a special month for becoming Canadian: It is National Indigenous Heritage month that reminds us of the country’s historic roots; it is national pride month that encourages us to celebrate our diversity; and it is close to Canada Day. The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell pointed out that Canadians share a sense for their roots and a pride for making the way to a new country – “In Canada, we are at our best when we come together!” A beautiful and memorable event that reflects better than anything what citizenship means.
