What a way to start the weekend: On Friday, September 10, Consul General Thomas E. Schultze and the representative of “Wines of Germany” in Canada, Ted Kalaboukis, handed out the Riesling Fellowship Award for the first time in in Canada.

The Riesling Fellowship was launched in 2008 to celebrate the grape, the wines and the people who make and sell them. Although there was a break last year (for reasons we all know), the Riesling Fellowship has been awarded worldwide every year since by the German Wine Institute/Wines of Germany to recognise individuals for their commitment, passion and love of German Riesling. In the past, the Fellows have included Jancis Robinson, Hugh Johnson, Stuart Pigott und Paul Grieco.

This year's award winners are Mr. Al Drinkle (Metrovino - Alberta) and Mr. Harry Drung (HHD Imports, Waterloo, Ontario). Thank you to our fantastic partners, in particular Chef Nick Liu from DaiLo for creating a menu pairing with the German wines served, which was truly an Asian German feast for the senses.
