For the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ in 2026, up to 16 cities in North America – USA (11), Canada (2) and Mexico (3) - will have the privilege of hosting the games. As co-host, Canada will host games in Toronto and Vancouver. A high number of spectators is expected for the 2026 World Cup. This means a high demand for security-related products and services for major (sporting) events in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. To this end, the security concepts and technologies of the stadiums must be revised and modernized, which opens up a special business opportunity for German companies in the field of security technology.
On March 7th, 2024, the Canadian German Conference on Civil Security Technology took place at the SFU. It is part of the Civil Security Technologies and Services Export Initiative and was carried out as part of the market development program for small and medium-sized German companies.
The USA-Canada business transaction takes place as part of the joint project “Civil security solutions and concepts for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico”. The aim of the project is to enable participating German companies to successfully enter the target markets of the USA, Canada and Mexico and to support them sustainably through a three-year program with the help of the extensive BMWK foreign trade promotion tools. The German providers of civil security technologies and services should build sustainable business relationships with the local players in World Cup planning.
Participants of the conference are offered the opportunity to present their company and their products to a selected specialist audience at the event and to hold individual business appointments with potential business and sales partners. Products and associated software solutions with application in the stadium are:
• Violence prevention: body and luggage scanners/metal detectors, video surveillance, drones, cyber security
• Architectural protection: railings, barricades, turnstiles, nets, fences, shatterproof glass, non-slip surfaces/turf, safeguards, locks, alarm systems
• Disaster/fire protection: sprinklers, smoke detectors, gas detectors, fire extinguishers, alarm systems, evacuation plans, signage and lights, etc.
• Pandemic protection: disinfection systems, UV light, air filters, antibacterial surfaces/coatings, partitions
